A Counterintuitive House Guest

President Barack Obama is delivering his first State of the Union address to the country this evening. Big news to everyone indeed. Illinois has Republican Congressman John Shimkus (IL-19) to provide other headlines.

According to The State Journal-Register, the seven-term congressman promises that he will behave and do as he normally would for any State of the Union address — stay in the chamber. Last time he walked out on the president was spur of the moment (their admission brought to the Shimkus fan base compliments of The Pantagraph in Bloomington-Normal.).

Seeing is believing. The Huffington Post provided a little more information. Translation: The Republican congressman from Collinsville remains seated as long as he hears something meeting his approval.

A petulant child well known for his self-aggrandizing temper tantrums.

Bigger news is the guest in the House chamber. Tonight's guest of Republican John Shimkus is state Rep. Brandon Phelps, D-Harrisburg.

That is D as in Democrat Brandon Phelps

Why? Inquiring minds want to know.

Simple answer: He is (finally) admitting his dark side. Democrat State Rep. Phelps is a Republican coming out of the closet and showing his true colors: red.
